Coconut and cashuma, nutmeg
and cocoa intermingled with poinsetta, turk's
cap and heliconia, all shaded and well protected
by the royal poinciana,
among whose roots scuttle a zandolie or two
and, in whose branches surveying his own little
world, the spectacular iguana or fruit sampling
squirrel. Come and enjoy a walkabout for an
hour or so with us at Waterville followed
by a refreshing tropical fruit drink. Daily

The Maracas Hike
As local folklore has it, the Spanish Conquistadors
landed at Maracas Bay in the 16th century
and, traveling by mule trail over the Northern
Range buried their treasure in the shelter
of the Santa Cruz Valley. To our energetic
friends for whom the excitement of following
one of the trails that the Spanish Conquistadors
might have used many years ago through the
rich, green tropical forest of our Northern
Range over to Maracas Bay, our guides will
be waiting to lead you on this remarkably
beautiful hike.
- Hike begins at 8:30 a.m.
- Hike takes approximately 2 1/2 hours
plus 1/2 hour drive back.
- Hiking shoes or sneakers are advisable.
- Hiking is undertaken during the months
of November to April.
- Prior arrangements must be made.
- Not recommended for children below the
age of seven.
At Maracas where your guided tour ends you
will be met and either driven back to Waterville
for a refreshing tropical drink, or if prior
arrangements have been made you can stay for
a swim and be collected at a later time.
